FC Bayern Munich is continuing its search for a coach for the new season. “There are many coaches. We are trying to find the best possible option,” said sports director Christoph Freund after the German soccer record champions’ 8-1 win against FSV Mainz 05. Games and victories like this made a lot of things easier, said Freund.

The Munich team has decided to part ways with coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. There is speculation about a successor. Of course, they “don’t want to put it off for too long,” said Freund. But the most important thing is to “do the right thing”.

According to sports director Max Eberl, FC Bayern Munich did not have any concrete discussions with Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso or other coaches during its search for a coach. “We have a list of priorities that we want to work through now,” said Eberl on Sky. There are “many facets” when looking for a coach – the possible transfer is one of them.

Kimmich “very relaxed”

Freund and Eberl are also driving forward squad planning. There had been repeated speculation about the future of leading player Joshua Kimmich. “In general, my situation is very clear. I still have over a year of contract. Nobody has spoken to me yet. That’s why I’m very relaxed,” said Kimmich. “At the end of the day for me it’s just about showing my performance. We have a European Championship coming up and then we’ll see what happens.”

Kimmich’s contract is dated until June 30, 2025. If the 29-year-old doesn’t extend his contract, the Munich team will have the last chance to collect a big fee this summer. “There will also be discussions with Jo, he played a really good game like he did on Tuesday,” said Freund. “Jo is a really good footballer, a very important factor for our team.”

Kimmich appears relaxed. “Let’s see what happens. For me, the most important thing is that I show good performance, that I reach my maximum performance, and I can’t influence the rest,” said family father Kimmich. “I feel comfortable in Munich. It’s not that bad here, even if the last few years haven’t been that successful in terms of sport.” Although Munich became champions, FC Bayern fell short of their expectations in the Champions League and DFB Cup.
