Denise Herrmann-Wick won the sprint at the start of the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria, and with her ninth World Cup success gave the German team its first win of the winter.

The 33-year-old shot clean and after 7.5 kilometers relegated the Czech Marketa Davidova, who had one penalty, to second place by 18.1 seconds. Third was Julia Simon from France (1 penalty/ 20.1 seconds). With that, the individual Olympic champion from Beijing created a perfect starting position for the pursuit on Saturday.
