The Los Angeles Lakers are threatened with a week-long absence from basketball superstar LeBron James in the North American professional league NBA. This was reported by the US news agency AP, among others, with reference to an anonymous person who was familiar with the situation.

James, 38, injured his right foot in the Lakers’ 111-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks last Sunday. The four-time NBA champion had left the hall limping.

James posts bandaged foot on Instagram

The full extent of the injury is not yet known and will be determined by further tests. Neither the club nor James himself have reported the possibility of a prolonged absence. However, James posted a picture of his right foot, which is bandaged, on Instagram. He wrote a curse and added an angry and two sad emojis.

The NBA star player, who three weeks ago replaced Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the best point scorer in league history, will definitely be absent from the away game on Wednesday night with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers have already announced that.

The injury was suffered by German international Dennis Schröder’s team-mate against Dallas in the third quarter. Nevertheless, he initially continued playing because the game was too important in the fight for playoff participation, as James explained afterwards. A longer absence of the points guarantor, who is averaging 29.5 points per game this season, would significantly reduce the Lakers’ playoff chances.
