The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have suffered a setback in the fight for the playoff places in the Euroleague.
After a disappointing performance, the Bundesliga basketball team lost 64:76 (29:40) to bottom-placed Asvel Villeurbanne. With a record of nine wins and 14 defeats, Pablo Laso’s team is only in 15th place, but at least tenth place is necessary to have a chance of making the playoffs in the European Cup.
Bayern had big problems with Villeurbanne’s Edwin Jackson, who, like the entire Munich team, had ten points after six minutes. While Bayern had to do without Serge Ibaka from the start, another big player, Devin Booker, was injured in the second quarter. The hosts now completely lost their rhythm and went into the locker room with a 29:40 deficit.
Shortly after the break, the Bundesliga basketball team’s deficit grew to 18 points. Thanks mainly to Carsen Edwards (21 points), the Munich team got within 50:59 before the fourth quarter, and four and a half minutes before the end of the game it was only 62:66. But Bayern were no longer able to turn the game around because their offensive performance was too harmless in the final phase. In no home game this season have Bayern scored fewer points than their 64 points against Villeurbanne.
