Robert Lewandowski has won the Gerd Müller Trophy, which is awarded to the best striker in the world in the 2021/22 season.

The award, formerly called Striker of the Year, has been renamed by France Football in honor of legendary German goalscorer Gerd Müller, who passed away in August 2021.

Lewa has won the award for the second year in a row – and retains the award, which appears to have been created only to appease the player after he was passed over for the 2021 Ballon d’Or election – after another impressive season at the Goal.

In the 2021/22 season, the Polish forward scored a remarkable 50 goals in just 46 games in all competitions for Bayern. In doing so, he secured the European Golden Boot for the second consecutive year and set the record for most goals by a foreign player in the Bundesliga.

The forward joined Barcelona in the summer and continues to have a stunning goalscoring record there. Lewa has already scored 14 goals in 13 games for his new club.
