Daniil Medvedev has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and could meet Alexander Zverev there.
The 27-year-old Russian defeated Hubert Hurkacz from Poland 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 6:3, 5:7, 6:4 in Melbourne. Medvedev, in the final of the first Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season in 2021 and 2022, converted his second match point after 3:59 hours.
There could be a duel with Zverev in the semifinals. The Olympic champion will face Spanish Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in the second game of the night session (approx. 10.45 a.m. CET/Eurosport). In the other semi-final on Friday, defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and the Italian Jannik Sinner will face each other.
“I’m completely exhausted. I just tried to get through somehow,” said Medvedev after his 100th game at a Grand Slam tournament.
