According to 90min information, Arsenal will try to sign Youri Tielemans from Leicester City in January. A transfer in the summer is considered more likely, since the Foxes are not (yet) playing.
Tielemans’ contract expires at the end of the season and he has turned down the option to extend it. Arsenal are among many interested in signing the Belgian but are widely regarded as favourites.
90min confirmed back in November that a winter deal for Tielemans was on the table. Our sources have again stressed Arsenal are keen to bring the 25-year-old on board as soon as possible.
The Gunners want to persuade Leicester to sell Tielemans in January and still collect a fee. However, Arsenal officials fear the Foxes will refuse to sell one of their key players mid-season as they remain in the relegation battle.
Leicester may be 13th in the Premier League table but are just four points clear of the relegation zone. Selling Tielemans is therefore, unsurprisingly, not the Foxes’ preferred course of action in January.
Leicester would only find the clearance easier if they could sign Moroccan World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi, who has come under the club’s eye after his stellar performances in Qatar.
