About a week before the start of the Alpine Ski World Championships, the German speed men are still looking for their World Cup form. In the comeback victory of Swiss ski racer Marco Odermatt in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Andreas Sander took 22nd place as the best DSV athlete. Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde finished second in the Super-G, 0.35 seconds behind, followed by Mattia Casse from Italy (0.49).

From February 6th to 19th, the Alpine racers will be competing for World Championship medals in France. The German men’s team starts with outsider chances, their dry spell without a podium place continued in Cortina in the absence of Thomas Dreßen. Romed Baumann and Simon Jocher on his return after a break from injury did not even finish after a driving error. Dominik Schwaiger (30th) and Josef Ferstl (37th) had no chance in the fight for the front ranks.

Ferstl in particular struggled with his next setback. “We all expect more. Today it was a really shitty race for me. The basic speed is there, but I just can’t get flawless runs down,” said the 34-year-old self-critically on ZDF.

For Odermatt, who is one of the favorites at the World Championships in Super-G, downhill and giant slalom, it was the first race after suffering a knee injury in Kitzbühel. With his seventh title of the season, the 25-year-old further extended his lead in the overall World Cup. On Sunday there is a second Super-G for the Alpines.
