After the redeeming cup title, the Bayern basketball players let it rip. Already in the dressing room, trainer Andrea Trinchieri was doused with plenty of beer, after the flight home the party continued in Munich.

“It doesn’t happen every day that you win a title. We have to be happy, at least for 48 hours,” Trinchieri said on Sunday immediately after the well-deserved 90:78 in the final against hosts EWE Baskets Oldenburg, before it was on Thursday in the Euroleague with the away game at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

After a mixed season so far with six defeats in the league and many setbacks in the Euroleague, the fourth cup win in the club’s history was balm for the Bayern soul. “Of course that’s really good,” said managing director Marko Pesic, who noticed the great tension throughout the weekend. It wasn’t until the title was decided that Pesic also seemed relaxed and sat down on the podium for the winning photo, on which the trophy had just been standing.

A season without a title, like the last one, always puts pressure on FC Bayern. President Herbert Hainer, who also traveled to Oldenburg, left no doubt about that. “At Bayern you are always measured by your successes,” said Hainer. The fact that a trophy has finally found its way to the Bavarian state capital with the cup victory takes the pressure off – and provides fresh self-confidence. “One more” (one more) Trinchieri told his pros at the award ceremony.

“The title now takes a bit of pressure off our shoulders. But we still have a long way to go,” said national player Andreas Obst in a declaration of war on the national competition from Berlin and Bonn, who are currently ahead of Bayern in the league. “We’ve got the first one now and the second one is yet to come,” said Hainer, referring to the German championship that Bayern last won four years ago.
