A day after the previous coach Domenico Tedesco was kicked out (as reported by Stern), the Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig has already found a successor: Marco Rose is to lead the Saxons out of the crisis. That was announced by Rasenballsport Leipzig GmbH on Thursday morning. The former coach of Mönchengladbach and Dortmund have signed a contract until 2024, the statement said. He will meet his old employer BVB with his new team next weekend.
The native of Leipzig should therefore lead his first training session in the afternoon. He brings along Alexander Zickler, Frank Geideck and Marco Kurth as assistant coaches. Rose has already worked in the Red Bull cosmos in the past: from 2013 to 2019 he worked for FC Red Bull Salzburg.
RB Leipzig had fired Rose’s predecessor Tedesco after a losing streak and just 109 days after winning the DFB Cup. He has been RB Leipzig coach since December 2021. In the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig is eleventh after five matchdays – which does not meet the demands of those responsible. On Tuesday, a desolate performance in the 4-1 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk (read more here) on the first day of the Champions League sealed Tedesco’s fate at RB.
Marco Rose is the eleventh RB Leipzig coach since it was founded in 2009, with Ralf Rangnick and Achim Beierlorzer twice calling the shots on the sidelines.
Rasenballsport Leipzig GmbH is currently working on Max Eberl’s commitment as the new head of sport. The duo Rose/Eberl already worked together at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
