The former Leipzig Christopher Vivell will be the new technical director at Chelsea. RB only announced the separation from the 35-year-old on Friday afternoon.
As the English newspaper The Telegraph reports, Vivell, who had held the position of technical director with the Saxons, will now take on the same role with the Blues. After talks earlier in the week, Vivell decided to move to west London.
According to The Telegraph, the obligation underlines that the new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wants to base his club policy on the RB model. Originally it was planned to hire Christoph Freund from Salzburg as the new sports director together with Vivell. However, Freund decided to stay in Austria. It is still unclear who will take on the role as new Chelsea sporting director instead. Most recently, Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten had been traded.
In addition to Vivell, two other Leipzigers could find their way to Stamford Bridge in the summer. Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol are still the focus of the current Premier League fifth. While Nkunku is said to have already signed a preliminary contract with Chelsea, talks with RB over a transfer from Gvardiol are already well advanced. The 20-year-old defender has a release clause of around €50m which the Blues are willing to draw.
