The boss isn’t satisfied yet: Pep Guardiola has urged Jack Grealish to score more goals after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Leeds at Elland Road.
It was a fine performance and a comfortable win for Guardiola’s men, but it could have been – and probably should have been – a lot easier. Grealish missed three clear chances in the first half and failed to get past the goalkeeper on any of those chances.
He was eventually involved in Erling Haaland’s two goals in the second half, but Guardiola admitted he would wish for more from his charge.
“Grealish made two assists,” Guardiola praised Amazon Prime and also highlighted his passing qualities. The big but: “The pace was better with Riyad [Mahrez] and Jack, but he needs to be more ambitious. He needs to score more goals and be competitive because he has the quality.”
Victory at Leeds saw Man City close five points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and Guardiola was delighted with the victory as Leeds were able to use the entire World Cup break to prepare for the game.
“We played really well against this team in this stadium,” he said. “We put in a great performance in the second half when they were a bit more open. After the World Cup nobody knows how we’re going to react and how Leeds have been playing lately. Today we were brilliant with the ball.”
