In the course of the corruption scandal in the European Parliament, the Greek authorities have frozen all the assets of the arrested Parliament Vice President Eva Kaili. “Bank accounts, safe deposit boxes, companies and all other assets are affected,” said the head of the Greek anti-money laundering authority, Haralambos Vourliotis, on Monday. The measure also applies to Kaili’s relatives.

The Greek politician and three other suspects were taken into custody by the Belgian authorities on Sunday. They are accused of “membership in a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption”.

Qatar is said to have tried to influence the decisions of the European Parliament with considerable sums of money and gifts. The FIFA World Cup is currently taking place in Qatar. In this context, there have been massive allegations of human rights violations in the Gulf state.
