He got high ratings – and repeatedly caused outrage because of his ultra-conservative comments fueled by conspiracy myths. Now agitator Tucker Carlson’s chapter on Fox News is over – the 53-year-old’s last show has already aired. The US broadcaster informed about the separation on Monday.

“We thank him for his services as host and contributor to our network of channels,” media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s company wrote in a succinct statement. The broadcaster did not give any reasons for the split.

The supposedly amicable end came a few days after Fox News agreed to pay a voting machine company the equivalent of around 715 million euros out of court. The broadcaster had spread lies about alleged manipulation of the voting computers in the 2020 presidential election and thus deliberately accepted false news from ex-US President Donald Trump and his lawyers.

Earlier it became known that some Fox News anchors had deliberately spread false reports in favor of the Republican camp. Tucker Carlson had also repeatedly supported Trump publicly on his programs, but allegedly “hated” him behind the scenes, according to court documents.

For Fox News, Carlson was one of the biggest hits in evening programming. In his programs, he regularly railed against homosexuals, migrants and spread conspiracy stories, such as a planned population exchange or the storming of the US Capitol in January 2021. The “New York Times” once wrote that Carlson had “possibly the most racist show in the history of television”. His last Fox News program aired last Friday.
