According to a new survey, the majority of people in Germany reject future government participation by the AfD. However, a survey by the polling institute Yougov shows that there is growing openness to other parties considering cooperation with the right-wing party, depending on the case.
41 percent of those surveyed said that the parties should completely rule out cooperation with the AfD – in mid-July it was 47 percent. 35 percent said that cooperation should be decided on a case-by-case basis. In the previous survey, this value was 27 percent.
According to Yougov, he carried out the comparable survey before the debate about the controversial statements made by CDU leader Friedrich Merz in the ZDF summer interview almost two weeks ago. Referring to the AfD’s electoral successes, Merz said: “We have to accept that. And of course the local parliaments have to look for ways to shape the city, the state, the district together.”
Yougov sees approval for the party at 23 percent nationwide. In the ARD “Deutschlandtrend” on Thursday, she achieved a new high of 21 percent. In the survey conducted by the Infratest dimap institute, 70 percent of those surveyed were in favor of the parties deciding whether to approve AfD applications in municipalities, cities and districts on a case-by-case basis. One in four is of the opinion that the other parties should generally reject AfD applications at the municipal level.
