A good week after the repeat elections to the Berlin House of Representatives, the CDU and SPD continued their exploratory talks. Shortly after the first meeting last Friday, the exploratory teams from the two parties met again on Monday morning. The CDU state chairman Kai Wegner said that a lot was still open on Friday. “We have a long agenda. It will be a few hours.”
The governing mayor and SPD state chairwoman Franziska Giffey said she was confident that she would be able to discuss everything that was planned. “We have a little more time today.” On Friday, the two parties had spoken to each other for around four hours. “We want to talk again about the social dimension, about topics like work, science, research,” said Giffey.
The SPD has already invited to exploratory talks with the Greens and the Left on Tuesday. The two current coalition partners agreed. The exploratory meeting between the CDU and the Greens is scheduled for Wednesday. Those involved want to find out whether they see a sufficient basis for starting coalition negotiations.
