mexicos-president-opposes-us-migration-warning-ads

So, like, Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, was all like, “Hey TV people, can you, like, stop airing this ad from Trump about migrants going to the U.S.? It’s totally discriminatory and not cool.” She even said she’s gonna make a law to ban these kinds of ads. In the ad, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who is like, Trump’s messenger, is all, “If you wanna sneak into America, forget about it. We’ll find you if you break the rules.” The commercial shows images of migrants running across the border, some drugs, and a bunch of police shots of Latino, Black, and Asian dudes. Mexico was not happy about it, and a government agency got a ton of complaints, so they told TV stations to ditch the ad. Sheinbaum also wants to make it illegal for other countries to air ads that diss Mexico. Sheinbaum and Noem had a chat about migration and drugs, and even though Trump was like, “I’m gonna put tariffs on Mexican stuff,” Sheinbaum tried to keep things chill. The number of people crossing the border has gone down thanks to the Mexican National Guard, and Sheinbaum’s plan to keep migrants in southern Mexico. Lots of peeps got stuck in Mexico when Trump said no more asylum, so now more folks are asking for asylum in Mexico. Cecilia Sánchez Vidal from The Times in Mexico City helped with this story.
