After falling seriously ill while on a trip to South Africa, she was 44 years old and then vanishing from public view, the royal said that it has been a long road to recovery.

In a rare interview, Princess Charlene of Monaco revealed that her health is still fragile after a mysterious illness.

Since being diagnosed with an ear, throat, and throat infection, the wife of Albert, Prince of Monaco, has been absent from public life for a long time.

She had to undergo several operations in South Africa where she was an Olympic swimmer. She returned to Monaco in March of this year after her problems.

Page Six reported last November that the 44 year-old royal was close to death after losing a lot of weight. According to a source close, the loss was due to “not being in a position to eat solid food for more than six months”.

She first fell ill during a 10-day scheduled visit to her homeland in May. There she had to undergo numerous painful operations.

Princess Charlene said that her health was still in fragile condition and she doesn’t want to speed up her recovery. She spoke out to the Monaco-Matin newspaper.

“The journey has been difficult, long and very painful. Today I feel calmer.”

She attended the Monaco E-Prix earlier this month with her husband, Prince Jacques, and their seven-year-old twins Princess Gabriella & Prince Jacques.

Prince Albert was criticized for not treating his wife’s health seriously after telling People magazine last year that “She was clearly exhausted, both physically and emotionally.”

He also acknowledged that she was admitted at her own expense to a “treatment center” in Monaco. This was her decision, and was supported by the family.

A source said that it was unfair to portray her as suffering from a mental or emotional disorder.

“We don’t know why the palace downplays that she nearly died in South Africa.”
