Oliver Schieke knew for a long time that he would fight. The baker from Dessau has eleven employees. It has been almost 75 years since his grandparents founded the company. You don’t just throw it away just because there’s a war in Europe and gas prices are going through the roof. He saves where he can. In the morning he takes the last piece of bread out of the oven with a shovel and loads it onto a trolley. “Three quarters done,” says the 45-year-old.
The next day, the loaves come back into the tube for a short time and then go to the retirement home in time for breakfast. So he saves the night surcharges. That makes it cheaper.
