According to a newspaper report, one of his employees at the time gave investigators new clues while searching for other secret government documents that former US President Donald Trump is said to have taken with him to his Mar-a-Lago estate. Accordingly, Trump ordered boxes with documents to be brought inside the property to his living area, wrote the “Washington Post” on Wednesday (local time), citing investigators. This came after Trump advisers received a request for the return of classified documents in May. This may have been an attempt to thwart a return to President Joe Biden’s current administration, the newspaper said.

In early August, the Federal Police FBI searched Trump’s property in the US state of Florida. The FBI confiscated various classified documents, some with the highest level of secrecy. However, several dozen empty folders with a secret note were also found during the search. This raised the question of what happened to the papers originally contained within. The former Trump employee is now considered a key figure in the investigation into the secret documents, wrote the Washington Post. Video footage supports his statement that boxes had been cleared around, the newspaper reported.

By keeping the documents in his private home after Trump left office, he could have made himself liable to prosecution. After the search, a complicated legal wrangling began, which even the US Supreme Court is now dealing with. It remains to be seen whether Trump could ultimately be charged. The 76-year-old Republican has so far left open whether he wants to run for the 2024 presidential election.
