The new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has surprisingly arrived in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv for talks. Pictures circulated on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official Telegram channel on Saturday show Sunak being received by Zelenskyy in light snowfall. “Since the first days of the war, Ukraine and Great Britain have been solid partners,” says the commentary on the video.
Important issues of cooperation and international security were discussed at the meeting. Sunak wrote on Twitter about his visit: “Britain knows what it means to fight for freedom. We are with you all the way.”
Sunak’s predecessor, Boris Johnson, was among the first senior Western officials to visit Kyiv after the war broke out to express solidarity with Ukraine. Britain has supplied Ukraine with anti-aircraft weapons and long-range multiple rocket launchers, among other things.
