After the arrest of two Iranians suspected of terror in Castrop-Rauxel around three weeks ago, one of the two men was released from custody. The district court in Dortmund saw no urgent suspicion in the 32-year-old, as a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf said on Tuesday. The prosecution has already appealed against the decision.

The two Iranians were arrested on January 7 on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder. They are suspected of wanting to obtain the toxins cyanide and ricin in order to kill numerous people on New Year’s Eve 2022.

There is also said to have been a connection to the jihadist militia Islamic State. Initial searches did not initially reveal any toxins on the suspects. The 25-year-old brother of the 32-year-old was last in custody. The investigations continued.
