At 12:41 p.m. on Thursday it’s that time again. The sirens are wailing in the Ukrainian capital Kiev – an air alert. At the same time, the cell phones of the guests at a café on the posh Kreschtschatik mile start to beep. Their owners have the air alert app on their devices, which warns of incoming missiles and kamikaze drones from the Russians. A deep male voice sounds in unison from all the devices: “Attention! Air alert. Go to the nearest shelter.”
