According to official information, the pan-Ukrainian power grid is intact again after the massive blackouts of the previous day. Deputy head of the presidential office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said Ukraine’s power grid is intact again. However, he did not specify how many households were supplied with electricity again after the blackouts of the previous day.
Not only the network was affected by the attacks, but above all the important substations. In the capital Kyiv alone, 70 percent of households were affected by emergency shutdowns in the evening.
According to the network operator Ukrenerho, half of the electricity requirements were covered again on Thursday evening. Most thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants produced electricity again. The nuclear power plants that had been shut down in an emergency also returned to the grid, with the exception of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
Power was out across the country
As a result of the Russian attack, the entire power system failed, it said in a statement. It is therefore not possible to say how long the repairs will take. “If we want to keep a unified energy system despite the Russian terrorist attacks, controlled shutdowns will be necessary.”
On Wednesday, after massive Russian rocket attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, the power supply failed across the country. Russia has been waging a war of aggression against its neighbor for nine months.
