Techno beat instead of organ sounds: Around 700 people celebrated a six-hour techno dance party yesterday in Erfurt’s Predigerkirche under the motto “Rave like God”. “It was great and better than we had hoped for,” said vicar and initiator Anne Heisig today. A long line had formed in front of the church, and some of the visitors had waited for hours for the gradual entrance to the techno rave.

Where the altar usually stands, three techno DJs played from Saturday afternoon. “The atmosphere was happy and peaceful – it was a really excited crowd dancing,” said Heisig. The offer, which was aimed primarily at young people, also attracted older visitors. According to the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM), it was the first techno rave in a church in Thuringia.

In the church, which is several hundred years old, the benches were pushed aside for a large dance floor. An LED wall with animations created a club atmosphere. The dance party was organized together with the Evangelische Jugend and the nightclub “Kalif Storch”.
