The shooting of the western film “Rust” is to be continued in the spring. According to “The Hollywood Reporter”, the team should consist of new and old crew members – including leading actor Alec Baldwin (64). The actor is currently facing multiple lawsuits after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) was fatally injured on set in October 2021.
Bianca Cline will serve as cinematographer in place of Halyna Hutchins, according to Rust Movie Productions. The scene rehearsed when Hutchins was shot was rewritten, attorney Melina Spadone said, according to the report. Exactly what the change will look like remains to be seen. The resumption of filming was announced last year after an agreement was reached between the production and Halyna Hutchins’ family.
This agreement stipulated that the film would be completed with the blessing of Hutchins’ widower Matthew. According to Spadone, Grant Hill and Stephen Marinaccio will serve as producers on the film alongside Hutchins. A documentary about the life and work of Halyna Hutchins is also slated for release. Here, too, Hutchins’ widower is to act as producer.
“While it’s bittersweet, I’m grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team, joining forces with the former cast and crew, is committed to completing what Halyna and I started,” said director Joel Souza ( 49) in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Filming was previously expected to resume in January.
During filming, Hutchins was hit by a bullet from a gun. Director Souza was also injured. Baldwin was preparing for a scene when he pointed the gun at the camerawoman and a shot went off. Baldwin was formally charged on January 31, 2023 on two counts.
The first charge is negligent homicide. The second charge is also negligent homicide, but in connection with the use of firearms. In addition, according to court documents that are said to be available to the US site “TMZ”, the parents of the fatally wounded camerawoman and her sister are also taking legal action against the star. Baldwin and the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, are among the accused in the documents.
