The artwork “We are moving to peace” with the striking peace symbol by Udo Lindenberg (77, “Comet”) was auctioned off at the beginning of the year for a good cause. As was announced on Monday, the auction brought in 75,000 euros. But that wasn’t enough, the musician, visual artist and Hamburg resident Lindenberg personally topped up the sum. The total amount now amounts to 100,000 euros.

The proceeds go to “Die Arche”. The Christian Children and Youth Organization offers leisure and learning support for children and young people in the Hamburg districts of Billstedt, Harburg and Jenfeld. Specifically, the money should be used “for daily warm lunches and extracurricular learning support,” as it says in a statement.

“The shared breakfasts and lunches are well-used because healthy and regular meals are not a given in every family,” said Hamburg’s First Mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, at an on-site appointment on Monday.

The donation through the sale of the Udo Lindenberg picture could “do a lot of good,” he said and added: “I would like to thank Hamburg’s honorary citizen Udo Lindenberg and the buyer of ‘We are moving to peace’ very much for their decision to buy the Arche “To promote children’s foundations in this way.”

And Udo Lindenberg was also very pleased with the success of the work of art, which was previously exhibited in the Federal Council as part of the Hamburg Federal Council Presidency. “It’s great that we have such great Arche facilities in Hamburg for the kids and that everyone can get enough tailwind and education,” he is quoted as saying.

This would allow children and young people to “later discover the big wide world, realize their wishes and dreams and do their own thing,” he continued – and thus also recalled the title of the biopic “Lindenberg! Do your thing” (2020). .
