After the introduction of the omicron variant, the U.S. had its largest COVID-19-related wave in history, the U.S. coronavirus mortality toll was higher than 990,000.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while most states are experiencing declining coronavirus incidences, every state still experiences a ” high” level in community transmission.
According to CDC , more than 378,000 new infections per day are reported in the United States. It is a significant drop from the high of almost 800,000 infections reported each day in January, but it’s still higher than any other peak.
However, COVID-19 still causes more than 2,400 deaths per day. The declines in deaths tend to be behind the decreases in hospitalizations and cases.
“While we continue seeing large drops in average daily cases across the country,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stated at a Wednesday press conference.
As discussions of an endemic and “new Normal” gain momentum , the record death toll is the highest reported by any country.
Experts warn, however, that despite the high numbers, the country is far from being there.
Anthony Fauci, a leading expert in infectious diseases, stated Wednesday that “We believe that we will get there.” We can’t promise that there won’t be another variant of the disease that will challenge us, but we can prepare for it.
