Many components of the cars behavior in the Interaction to influence the driving. Among other things, tires, brakes, axles, springs, dampers – but what the fall actually is?
Erfurt (dpa/tmn) – Would you drivers ask, what is the camber on the car, or where this is, get one of many sure only a shrug to answer. Vehicle expert Christian Heinz Tüv Thüringen explains what lies behind the name of fall, or better camber.
The wheels are inclined towards the interior of
Under the camber refers to the vertical direction of the wheel in the running direction of the wheel. “More specifically, the camber of a wheel is the angle between the imaginary direction related to the centre of the wheel and the Perpendicular to the roadway,” explains Heinz the term of the suspension technology.
This angle can be positive or negative. In the case of a negative camber of a wheel in the direction of travel is inwardly inclined at a positive camber angle, the vertical direction of the wheel extends outward.
With a standard vehicle is usually set to a slightly negative camber, and dasd, both at the rear as on the front axle. This is with the naked eye hardly visible. “This has the advantage that the wheel can build up a higher cornering force in curves,” explains Heinz. “This phenomenon is used in Motorsport but also in the Tuning scene.” By a larger camber they wanted to reach higher cornering speeds and enhanced cornering stability.
Tuning extreme is not good for the driving behavior
“provided For some Tuning vehicles, the suspension components, however, an extreme negative camber. This eye-catching slant of the wheels called “Camber”, but rather only a visual aspect,” said Heinz.
in addition to the positive properties of the curve such excessive negative camber on the vehicle has to travel, however, clear disadvantages. The straight running of the car is deteriorating, and due to the increased load on the tire inner side of the tire from driving on one side – the tire wear increases.
