Just imagine: Lidl and Kaufland are hit by a massive hacker attack. The cash registers are paralyzed, all 4000 branches in Germany in one fell swoop. Fast reopening of stores? Only if a ransom worth millions is paid to the cyber criminals. A few days you could perhaps still easily shop at other chains. But over the past two and a half years, everyone has been able to see how quickly goods can be sold out when supply suddenly becomes scarce or panic buyers set off.
