It is the third and longest strike to date by the GDL train drivers’ union in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute. The union began the industrial action in passenger transport on Wednesday morning. There has been a strike in freight transport since Tuesday evening. The union wants to use the industrial action to increase the pressure on the railway in order to achieve a reduction in working hours for shift workers with full pay. The railway rejects this. The GDL is also demanding wage increases.
