After the success of the “Barbie” film, the manufacturer Mattel is preparing for better sales of the traditional dolls. Mattel expects growth at Barbie in the second half of the year, said company boss Ynon Kreiz yesterday after the quarterly figures were presented.

In the past quarter, Barbie sales have fallen. However, with a minus of six percent, things were already much better than at the beginning of the year. Sales fell 41 percent in the first quarter. Hot Wheels cars, on the other hand, performed significantly better.

However, Kreiz expects that, in addition to the Barbie dolls, fan articles related to the film will also sell well. According to industry estimates, “Barbie” grossed over $350 million (316 million euros) at the box office worldwide in its first weekend.

In the second quarter, Mattel’s revenue fell 12 percent year-on-year to $1.09 billion. Profit fell 59 percent to $27.2 million.
