Overall, tourism in Germany has almost reached the level it was before the corona pandemic: In July 2022, the gap to July 2019 was 4.2 percent according to calculations by the Wiesbaden statisticians. However, July 2019 was also a record month with 58.8 million overnight stays. Never since the census began in 1992 had a higher number been measured in a month.
In July of the current year, the number of overnight stays by guests from Germany increased by 8.4 percent to 47.0 million compared to the same month last year. The industry doubled the number of guests from abroad to 9.3 million. However, cross-border tourism in Germany is still a long way from the pre-crisis level, according to the Federal Office: the number of overnight stays by guests from abroad in July 2022 was 16.3 percent below that of July 2019.
