Despite a recovery, tourism in Germany did not reach the pre-corona level in February. Hotels, guesthouses and the like recorded 26.4 million overnight stays by domestic and foreign guests, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.

According to the preliminary results, that was 40.5 percent more than in the same month last year, when there were still some closures and restrictions due to corona. The level of February 2020, the reference month before the pandemic, was missed by 11.7 percent.

The number of overnight stays by guests from Germany rose by 33.2 percent to 21.6 million in February 2023 compared to the same month last year. Overnight stays increased by 86.3 percent to 4.8 million travelers from abroad. However, cross-border tourism in Germany was still 15.5 percent below the pre-crisis level of February 2020. Overnight stays in companies with at least ten beds are taken into account.
