Youtuber Hope Allen sits in front of a wall of bright orange packages and doesn’t really know what to say now. “Temu has taken over and I don’t know what I think about it.”

The e-commerce company Temu’s “Shop like a billionaire” advertising campaign, which promotes its online flea market, is omnipresent globally, explains Allen. Their reaction was to test the service – on a scale where errors are bound to appear.

Among the piles of extremely cheap clothing, bags, tools, toys and kitchen utensils were designer knock-offs that raised questions. “How do they get away with this?” Allen asked as he looked at an obviously fake Victoria’s Secret bag, which also smelled more like a factory than luxury.
