Mr. Rieck, for the new year I plan to do more exercise, eat less sweets and finally read a few really clever books. Why is it so difficult to actually implement such resolutions?
The psychological explanation would be that ultimately the irrational part of our brain takes over. As an economist and game theorist, I prefer a different perspective. I say: Lying on the sofa instead of going jogging is completely rational for us at that moment. At least for part of us.
