New changes in tobacco prices in Spain. The Official State Gazette (BOE) has updated the rates for some brands of cigars and cigars for tobacconists on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

These new prices came into force from the moment of their publication in the BOE. As provided by Law 13/1998, these prices are proposed by the tobacco companies or companies that import these products into our country; and they are mandatory for tobacconists or different establishments that sell tobacco.

These are the tobacco brands that have changed their prices, according to the latest update, published last Saturday, July 2.

As has already been said, the price of tobacco is determined by what manufacturers or importers establish. These communicate it to the Commissioner for the Tobacco Market, who only approves it and makes it generally known so that tobacconists and retailers can update it.

The portal of the Government Administration indicates the different tax rates —the percentage that the Treasury takes— with which the sale of tobacco is taxed. These are 51% of the price of each pack, 15.8% for cigarettes, 41.5% for rolling cigarettes and 28.4% for the rest of the tobacco.

However, other tax charges are added to this tax, which raise the total tax, according to data from the Tobacco Table in 2020, they accounted for 77% of the RRP.
