Ms.wegelin, what does a financial expert who recently became a mother say about sayings like “Children are expensive” or “You have to be able to afford a child”? Is your mother’s heart protesting, or are you just starting to calculate? Despite all the happiness of being a mother, there’s no denying that children cost money. There is a new family member that needs to be taken care of. They want to have clothes and food, and later go on a school trip and get a driver’s license. By the time a child grows up, it costs the parents a six-figure sum. Of course, money is not the first thing that comes to mind when you want children. Nevertheless, I think it is important to ask ourselves the question rationally: How can we afford this? In the end, a lot of it is a matter of planning.
