Some people rave about their job, others could complain endlessly about the work. You can do both on the employer review platform Kununu. From many subjective individual evaluations, a meaningful picture can emerge where working is more fun than anywhere else. Kununu has now analyzed a total of more than 850,000 reviews to find out how satisfied employees are on average in different industries. The evaluation is available to star in advance.

The most satisfied employees work in human resources and procurement, followed by tax consulting/auditing and IT. Also in the top group are employees in insurance, advice/consulting and marketing/advertising/PR. On the other hand, employees in the printing and packaging industry as well as public administration are particularly dissatisfied.

The Kununu satisfaction score is made up of a number of individual factors that employees can rate at their respective employers. This includes the working atmosphere, the cohesion among colleagues and your own area of responsibility. The employer’s communication, the behavior of superiors and the work-life balance are also assessed. There are also issues of equal rights for men and women as well as dealing with older colleagues, the technical equipment of the workplace and environmental and social awareness. And finally: salary and social benefits, career opportunities and further training opportunities as well as the company’s image.

If the average of all evaluated categories results in at least four out of five stars, Kununu classifies the employee as satisfied – the bottom line is a rather strict definition that could also be used differently. An average rating of 3.9 stars is already considered dissatisfaction. The comparison between the sectors is therefore particularly interesting.

According to this classification, three out of four human resources employees are satisfied with their employer. There are also more than 70 percent satisfied employees in tax consulting/auditing and IT. In insurance, advice/consulting and in marketing, PR and advertising it is more than two thirds. In the areas of health, social affairs and care, slightly more than one in two people are satisfied. In craft or gastronomy it is a little less than half. There are fewer than 45 percent satisfied employees in public administration and the printing and packaging industry.

The table shows the average values for 39 industries. The ranking takes into account all reviews submitted to Kununu between September 2022 and August 2023. Next to it is the comparison value from the previous year. In order to be included in the ranking, at least 1000 reviews per industry and time period were necessary.
