on The 11th of last may, the city of Paris has seen a small revolution. The rue de Rivoli, a major focus at the heart of the capital has become predominantly a cyclist. A transformation of the urban landscape that is inscribed in the will of Anne Hidalgo to reduce the size of the car. If the decision is one that has been recently rééelue to the town hall is not as happy, the conceiving socialist is not alone in this fight. In Lisbon, Portugal, several arteries of the city centre are now pedestrianised, says International Mail, relaying an article in the local daily newspaper Publico.
The regulars of Lisbon already knew about the famous Rua Nova Do Carvalho, a street rose, the city centre, emblem of the night life and fully piétonnisée. Now, the city called also the city of a thousand colors, is adorned in blue. The tar of the street Bacalhoeiros, in the Baixa just to be fully covered. The streets Nova Da Trindade and João das Regras should follow the same path in the immediate future. A choice of bright color, which has one aim : to insist on the fact that the street is now pedestrianised. Merchants also have the right to install terraces up to 23 hours. A boost that looks like here also to what has been put in place in Paris.

A decision criticized
According to the local media, the decision to paint the street blue has caused “an avalanche of criticism on social networks”…, in particular due to the choice of color. Fernando Medina Maciel Almeida Correa, the mayor of Lisbon, has taken this decision after the outbreak of coronavirus. If the containment of the country was officially lifted on July 1, 19 districts of Lisbon and its environs are still the object of special measures. The agreement concluded for the piétonnisation of these three streets will end on the 31 December next.
