Google has launched a program that will assist more than 20,000 Americans in job training and placement via its $100 million Google Career Certificates Fund.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, and Gina Raimondo, U.S. Secretary for Commerce, announced Thursday that a $100 million Google Career Certificates Fund was launched. This fund aims to generate $1 billion in wage growth.
Google claims that the program will provide job-ready skills for people in areas like Data Analytics, IT Support and UX Design within 3-6 months. No degree or experience is required.

Pichai stated that Social Finance is an exciting way to expand economic opportunities for more Americans through our new $100 million Google Career Certificates Fund.

Social Finance is a national advisory and finance nonprofit that focuses on impact financing and investment.

Pichai stated Thursday that the innovative funding model combines digital skills training with support services to connect more Americans into high-growth, high-paying job opportunities. We hope it will transform lives, families, and communities.

Raimondo stated that the Biden administration “is less focused on creating well-paid jobs for American workers.” It is important that we come up with creative solutions to allow parents and women to fully participate in our economy.
Raimondo stated that “top business leaders know that investments such as child care are fundamentally investments which enable people to work.” It’s good news for workers, good for the economy, and good for business.

She said, “I look forwards to continuing to work with Google and its partner behind this innovative program for helping families get ahead.”

Google claimed that the initiative is student-friendly and uses a financing model that’s “student-friendly”. They said there are no upfront costs for learners to take part, but they only have to repay program costs through low, no-interest monthly payments “if they get a job earning at least $40,000 per year.”
Google stated that Social Finance would reinvest the repayments into the program over several years in order to allow more learners to benefit. They also added that their goal is to “catalyze and inspire others in the industry to make training affordable and more accessible for Americans.” “
Google Career Certificates were created by employees to help with training in high-demand areas. The program is able to be completed in as little as three to six months with part-time study. More than 70,000 people have already graduated from it in the U.S.
