Industry in Germany surprisingly continued the strong start to the year and increased production significantly again in February. In a monthly comparison, total production increased by 2.0 percent, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.

The increase in January was also stronger than previously known. The Federal Office revised the increase at the beginning of the year upwards to 3.7 percent, after an increase of 3.5 percent had originally been reported. A year-on-year comparison also showed a positive development in February. From this point of view, production increased by 0.6 percent.

The majority of the economic sectors increased production in February, as the Federal Office further announced. The automotive industry made a particularly large contribution to the significant increase in overall production: the largest industrial sector in Germany increased its production by 7.6 percent month-on-month. “Large parts of the construction industry, which increased its production by a total of 1.5 percent, had a positive impact on the result in the manufacturing industry,” the statement said.
