The new ministers of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, and Work, Yolanda Diaz have taken possession of their charges Monday. They are both very different from each other, both by career path as by political affiliation (communist one; it is independent of the other) is something we already knew and has seen in the speeches of both of them in the act in which they have taken charge of their portfolios. The two have put the accent on social issues, but his approach to them has been very different: one, Escrivá, has spoken of the “agenda of reform” from “the evidence”; the other has had a speech more emotional and ideological in which he has spoken of the “people behind the numbers.”
The first, even by the structure of his speech, has said that his priority will be the creation of a minimum income vital, “it must be an effective tool of inclusion”. “This goal of inclusive growth, this concept is what we are going to hear a lot from now on, must be accompanied by metrics and tangible goals,” he continued.
Close up of “quick way” the deficit of the Social Security
After the new minister has spoken of that, probably, will be the subject of more energy you will consume from now: the reform of the system of pensions. “We will ensure the updating of pensions with the CPI, but our proposal seeks to close quickly and effectively the Social Security deficit,” he continued. According to the document prepared by the Airef at the beginning of 2019 on pensions, this would result in the short term to increase the resources of the institute to the public by rearranging the distribution of pension contributions, and unemployment and with more money coming from taxes.
For its part, the new minister of Labour, Yolanda Diaz, has vowed to “repeal the labour reform”. “A moment ago I have promised to fulfill and to make fulfill the Constitution,” he continued, in a clear reference to the political discourse of United we Can. In the Government pact between the PSOE and United we Can, however, not accurate if the new Government will repeal all the labour reform of the PP 2012 or just delete the most harmful of the new labour model.
The new minister has put a lot of emphasis in combat precariousness and to “defend the work, but the work with rights”.
