The nationalized energy company Uniper ended its crisis year with a double-digit billion loss. Higher procurement costs for natural gas following the discontinuation of supplies from Russia had a negative impact. In addition, the separation from the Russian business pushed the result.

At the subsidiary Unipro alone, it was 4.4 billion euros, as Uniper announced. As is known, Uniper made a loss of 19 billion euros on balance. The group presented preliminary key data two weeks ago.

The federal government had to save Uniper last year because the group was in trouble. In order to be able to continue to supply customers, including more than 500 municipal utilities, Uniper has had to buy gas on the world market at much higher prices since Russian deliveries were stopped. State aid amounts to up to 34.5 billion euros. The federal government holds 99.1 percent of Uniper.
