The energy company Uniper, which is struggling due to a lack of Russian gas supplies, needs more billions from the federal government. The planned cash capital increase of 8 billion euros alone will not be enough to stabilize Uniper, the group announced on Wednesday.

Therefore, the company wants to bring in up to 25 billion euros by issuing new shares. The money should be available to partially restore the weakened equity. Only the federal government is entitled to purchase. The state-owned KfW bank will provide interim financing to bridge the gap.
