According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 233.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were generated and fed into the grid in Germany in the first half of 2023. The share of renewable energies increased compared to the previous year, with wind energy accounting for the largest share. According to a Destatis press release on Wednesday, domestic electricity generation fell by 11.4 percent compared to the previous year, which is explained, among other things, by the shutdown of the last three nuclear power plants at the end of April. Similarly, less electricity has recently been exported while imports have increased. Despite this development, German electricity exports of 32.6 billion kilowatt hours also exceeded electricity imports of 30.6 billion kilowatt hours in the first half of 2023, it is said. Overall, the amount of electricity available to the network fell by 6.9 percent. The results are still preliminary, writes Destatis.
