“Wirtschaftswise” Veronika Grimm warns of gas shortages due to rising consumption. It is “easy to imagine” that the industry in particular will consume significantly more gas again due to the fall in wholesale prices – and “that would be associated with dangers in the current situation,” Grimm told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. “Up until the coming winter, it must be a top priority to keep a buffer in order to be able to react to a more tense supply situation. The federal government may also have to provide incentives to continue saving gas.”
With the end of the corona lockdown in China, demand is also coming back from there, Grimm said. This is one of the reasons why the coming winter will “definitely be challenging”. Grimm added that it was not until next year that the capacities for importing liquid gas would be sufficient to ease the situation. The prices would, however, even then “level off at a higher level than before the crisis”.
