Several weeks after the start of the training year, tens of thousands of young people are still without an apprenticeship – but the majority of them should still be cared for. “The training year is not over yet,” said Andrea Nahles, chairwoman of the Federal Employment Agency, on Tuesday in Berlin. “We can still place young people in apprenticeships.”
According to Nahles, 75,000 people were still without an apprenticeship in the summer. “We want to push that down significantly.” In order for applicants and training companies to come together, follow-up placement campaigns are currently underway. In recent years, it has been possible to reduce the number of people without care to around 25,000.
According to Nahles, there are basically more apprenticeships than applicants. However, individual sectors and regions have the opposite problem – and more applications than apprenticeships.
Nahles advised unplaced applicants to be open to potentially interesting offers. “Some have become fixated on a profession and then it doesn’t work,” said the former federal labor minister. Discussions in the follow-up placement could partly expand the professional field of the applicants.
Good conditions for trainees are also part of the federal government’s skilled labor strategy. The federal cabinet wants to officially launch this comprehensive approach to recruiting a sufficient number of employees in all areas this Wednesday, as Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) announced.
