Many have done so. They had completed a subscription at a gym and after a few training lessons the good intentions are forgotten. A year later, the nasty Surprise came in the Form of the next invoice. Who then wanted to cancel, was put off until next year and had to pay for it. The contract had automatically renewed, and the termination date was long over.

This is not supposed to happen, at least not in the case of the first extension. The national Council decided, against the opposition of the FDP and SVP of an Amendment to the code of obligations, according to the companies, their customers must, at the earliest, inform three, at the latest one month before the extension of the possibility of Termination. However, this will only apply for the first extension, and only for new contracts.

The Council rejected a request from the SP and the Greens, to the provision retroactively to all existing contracts in force. So if you have a current, automatically renewable contract, you must inform yourself about the termination date or as a precautionary measure, to terminate.
