“To be fat had slowed me to have the youth, I then felt I should have,” says podcastværten Marie Skadhauge, while her co-host Ditte Skrumsager Hansen agrees.
Both felt that high school was a ‘tough space’, where they in some areas did not fit in because of their sizes.

today, respectively, five and six years after their performances, the duo behind ‘Big girls podcast’, which will help girls to realize that they are good enough as they are.
The two journalism students, Ditte Skrumsager Hansen and Marie Skadhauge, act ‘the fat friend’ in the airwaves and virtual krammere to other young, big girls.
For they both have an inner teen as well could have used a hug.
the Girls, who met each other on the Journalisthøjskolen, is in day of the internship, respectively, Femina and Politiken. In march, uploaded the their first title, called ‘It’ the bold life’.
the Podcast is a samtalepodcast with Marie Skadhauge and Ditte Skrumsager Hansen, where they talk about the dilemmas, emotions and social structures, which makes it hard to be overweight.
A goal has been to take the word ‘fat’ back. It is no longer forbidden to call themselves thick.
“Berøringsangsten that we are thick, disappeared quietly after we had made the podcast. It also gave our neighbors a language for it,” says Ditte Skrumsager Hansen.
But though they dare call themselves thick, it is not always easy to call their 1.200 weekly listeners too thick.
Both, they speak freely from the liver, and their title edited not, yet they are very conscious about how they formulate themselves.
talking about being overweight can feel like treading a minefield, and to create a shitstorm is not at the top of the wish list for christmas.
Both are afraid that they don’t sound reflective enough, or that it sounds as if all of it is sin for them, for sometimes it is ‘not so fucking special’ to think, life is hard.
“We’re so piss scared to describe ourselves as victims, for it is certainly not our intention,” says Marie Skadhauge.
Here, several years after Marie Skadhauge and Ditte Skrumsager Hansen left high school, they are able to turn their thick bodies into a strength. Through the podcast, they have learned that ‘kropsskam’ not only was reserved for their young and insecure high school I.
“It has been incredibly crazy and wonderful and tragic at the same time, that women and young girls of all ages and sizes have said that they can recognize our thoughts,” says Ditte Skrumsager Hansen, and continues:
“For me, it tells also that the doubts, the thoughts and livsangst is so fundamental a part of might not just be a woman, but it is to be human.”
To Ditte Skrumsager Hansen and Marie Skadhauge have been able to use it to be thick to do something, has made a big difference for them. It is a big plus of the many minuses about this lot in life’.
